My holiday faves
Update: Winner, randomly drawn, is: TERESA WOODBY. Email me with iTunes card in the subject line and include your addy! Original post: Recently iBooks asked me to write up a blog on my favorite holiday reads. That should have been an easy one but as with my own children, I had a hard time narrowing down my faves. :) So here they are, NOT in any particular order:
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Clement C. Moore I’ve been in love with this one since I was a kid. I read it to all my kids from before they even knew what a good rhythm was. We still read it together and they’re grownups now. Well, sort of grownups. Some more than others… but that’s another story. My point is we still love it, even if sometimes we make up whole new paragraphs.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens When I was little, I used to read this story to myself and … scare the crap out of myself. ☺ Also I wanted to marry Tiny Tim. I really can’t explain…
POLAR EXPRESS by Chris Van Allsburg This is a kid’s story too, but it’s pure magic to me. It never fails to set the mood for Christmas; the scents and sights and feelings that the holidays always bring. I always read it to my girls on Christmas Eve while we were making cookies for Santa.
LITTLE WOMEN by Louisa May Alcott Okay, so maybe this isn’t a classic holiday story, but I love to reread it at the holidays anyway.
CHRISTMAS COOKIE RECIPES cookbook by Diana Devlin This one might be self-explanatory. But in case it’s not, I love cookies. I specifically love Christmas chocolate. And if you marry that Christmas cookie with chocolate in any fashion, well, I’ll follow you forever.
HOLIDAY IN DEATH and FESTIVE IN DEATH by JD Robb Actually, I love anything by JD Robb but the In Death series is my absolute go-to. Roarke is my pretend holiday boyfriend. Ah, heck, who am I kidding, he’s my anytime pretend boyfriend.
SKIPPING CHRISTMAS by John Grisham I love all his books, but this one holds a special place in my heart.
THE GIFT OF THE MAGI by O. Henry A true classic story that never fails to remind me what the holiday is supposed to really be about.
DANIEL AND THE ANGEL by Jill Barnett I love Jill Barnett’s older romances. They were among the first romances I ever read and the reason for this is because Jill Barnett is my maiden name. I saw her in the bookstore and was fascinated and excited to find someone writing under MY name! Well, I fell in love with her and with romance and this story started it all…
There you go, my fave holiday stories. iBooks has set up a special page so you can check them all out HERE.
And now for one that I hope will you’re your list this year: my own MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY, a $1.99 novella available now.
