Update: Oh my goodness, the comments were wonderful, loved each and every one of them!! So much that I had to use random.org to pick a winner, and it is ... drum roll ... #205 Diane Engelhardt. Diane, email me with your email addy! Original Post: In IT HAD TO BE YOU, my heroine is a florist who can make beautiful floral arrangements but can't organize her own life. I can't make beautiful floral arrangements OR organize my own life, but hey, we all have our faults. Alpha Man and I have been together since about the ice age, and over the years he's brought me flowers lots of times. But I don't change the water or take care of them, and they die early. He tried switching to bringing me live plants. Anniversaries, birthdays, and the occasional I've-Been-An-Ass plant.
I've killed all of them too.
The truth is, I have a total black thumb, and also, I don't tend to notice the little details. Like needing to water anything that's alive... Good thing my kids are old enough to water themselves.
Not too long ago, I was nominated for two Ritas, a prestigious award given by Romance Writers of America. The awards will be handed out in July at our Atlanta national conference, so I have no way of knowing if I might win or not, but to honor the nomination, Alpha Man brought me home a pretty planter with two orchids in it. I told myself if they lived until I went to Atlanta, I'd have a shot at a Rita (suspicious much? who me?). Suffice it to say, the orchids are already dead...
When was the last time you gave or received flowers? I'll be drawing a name from today's comments, and the winner will get a $25 gift certificate to 1-800-FLOWERS.
